Camcorder advise

Had a quick scan through some old threads, but just wondering what peoples opinions are on SD camcorders.

I'm looking at getting a camcorder for about €200-€300, and thought that an SD card one would be handiest for transferring files onto the laptop, while having good quality.

Would I be right in this presumtion? The ones I've been looking at are the Panasonic SDR s7 / sw20, and canon FS10 / 100.

    Any opinions or suggestions?

Any idea on the quality of these or if there are others of the same price range which are a better quality?

Main things I am looking for in a camcorder would be:
    long battery life
long recording onto whatever format, be it SD, mini dv etc.
    compact size
easy to use (ie it wont need to be highly technical with formatting picture shots etc)
