Doing 2nd marathon & following the HH intermediate plan. Did 17 miles yesterday (missed run on saturday so did 8 on sunday race pace, 17 LSR yesterday ~ 8 min/mile).

    quads are pretty sore today.

should I do scheduled 5 mile today as a recovery run to get back on schedule or better off leaving it and potentially missing 5 miles from this weeks total.
Keeping in mind that I've already wedged last weeks 17 miles into this weeks schedule and will be doing 18 next Sunday.

Rest, I think, the body will appreciate it. If you need to maybe a nice relaxed walk or swim even.

I think you should do something but 5 miles on sore muscles seems tough. Personally I find a swim or a cycle to be a good way of loosening out the legs after a long run, but that's coming from someone doing the novice program!

Agree - rest is needed (your plan should have you resting after long runs anyway), but gentle cross-training would be beneficial if you feel up to it. Swim would be ideal.

I think his plan does but he missed a run and moved it to his rest day and then didn't rejigg the rest of the week.

yep, thats it - rest day should have been yesterday.

i either do run today to get back on schedule (or could squeeze it on fridays rest day instead) or rest/ go for a walk. i usually commute on the bike but its off the road at the moment so can't use that as a cross train.

I like to make the weekly total each week if at all possible.

Unless you are running very low mileages, it's much more important to keep the quality high than hit the total target mileages. There were a couple of posts on junk miles last week that might be worth looking at.

    thanks all.

Will rest up today and might make it up on friday if the body feels OK.
Not sure what constitutes high/low miles. Up into the 40s/week at the moment.

trying to keep the quality of the other runs high. Did 3.20 last year and aiming for 3.10 but would be happy with 3.15. Not sure have done enough for a 3.10 (or if able for it even).

I think a 5 mile recovery done slowly would be fine. Depends on the rest of the week, how many days you normally run etc.
