Hey just about to start in UCC and I don't know Cork very well.

One thing I noticed on here is there's no current students giving us freshers a guide to Cork City's nightlife.

So...What are the best Nightclubs,Nights out,Bars,Pubs,Off Licences etc....
Where should we avoid/biggest kips and all the rest?

Don't know too many pubs and the like in cork myself, but the bróg on oliver plunkett street does all pints for E2.90 before 9 o clock. your gonna pick up on all the clubs and stuff around the place as you go along though.most clubs will do a college night on thursdays i think as well. look around though, your almost bound to find some place that no-one else will tell ya about.

Well there are plenty of clubs! The main ones being:

Gorbys, Redz, Bondi Beach. Havannas, Rafters, Fast Eddies. Theres also mangans but i wouldnt recommend going there as its a hole. Gorbys in my opinion is the best. Majority of all these clubs do good deals mid-week like 2 or 3 euro drinks!

As for the pubs side of things there are loads and your best bet is to get out there and try some! To name would be The Washington Inn, Preachers, The Brog, The Newport. Barrack street is fairly good as it has loads of pubs on it!

Ive probably forgotten some of peoples favourites but you've got the basic lo-down! Anyways enjoy yourself in Cork, its pretty fun!

Freakscene is the best night out in Cork.
Wednesday nights in Gorbys/Qube from 11 until 2.30.
Nicest crowd of the week and almost never any hassle.
Don't go if you like the sweaty dance-music slutty-girl vibes of other more "popular" clubs.
There's a gay club on the 1st floor where they play 80s and 90s classics and the 2nd is an indie/rock/occasional metal club.
Worth going to, you'll get hooked.

    The clubs are rubbish really.
Cheap enough on tuesdays and thursdays but at weekend its 5 for a bottle alone.

    I hate the nightlife.
    Mostly cheese or house music.
House, I don't mind but there is a serious lack of variety (freakscene is the only indie/rock night of note)and big name acts coming to Cork for gigs.

Goldsoundz is beginning again this Saturday in Liquid Lounge by the way, it'll be the first and last Saturday of every month.
It's by the same people who do Freakscene but this one'll have a bit of a different vibe I'd say.
The music'll apparently be "jazzy loungey retro cool", everyone dresses up a little more than necessary and cocktails will be served by a retro-dressed waitress.
I'm bloody dying for it :D
Think it's only by invitation the opening night but it'd be worth coming to at the end of the month.

Well there will be a freshers mag coming out in Ucc! A friend of mine is making it. Its just not freshers week yet so they have yet to release it!
You can also ask all the current students at your orientation day loads of questions too.
There is a great pub life in cork and if that does not work out, there is always the brog :/

I heard the Brog was supposed to be good as a pub. Have to give The Newport a go aswell tho seein as its the name of my hometown haha. I'm sure it's the best one! :p

Havana Brown's on a tuesday is the best night out in Cork imo.

Thrsday night's main location seems to change every year. Last year Fast Eddies was good, who knows this year.

Havana's on Tuesdays though ftw imo.

Might head to that for the laugh. Not fond of the place at all. Usually full of idiots. Vengaboys are tempting though, relive my early teens.

Redz is **** but Bondi is horrendous.

Redz would be ok if there was better service at the bar and the music upstairs is usually good.
Bondi has nothing going for it while Gorby's is about the best

Havent been to Gorby's on any night bar Wednesdays but it was good enough...Freakscene not being a bad night out really.

The Brog is ok depending on your mood. It's hard to talk with the loud music so it's not a great "pub" as such then.

    Havana's is good on Tuesday's.

Redz is a sh!thole, the floors are always sticky, it's cramped and has a massive stairs which must be terrible if you are drunk and if there's a fight someone's neck will break. It's always way too full too.

Mangans....go once to see just why it's so bad and then never go back.

Bondi is a little better than Redz in that there is more room but it's a sh!thole too. The crowd are generally of the hoopy top variety and obnoxious and/or dangerious at times ahaha!

The Pavilion is a relatively new late bar/club. I've only been twice and never for too late at night but loved the place...it's fresh, gets great music in there all of the time and really is a new change from the rest of this cities kinda dour and dank nightlife.
