    any thoughts out there?

Depends on what you are using it for. A monitor has a higher number of pixels per sq cm and is better for text and other similar applications. So if you are using it for office applications I would recommend a monitor. If you just want to play games or watch videos a hdtv will work well but you need to be sitting at least a metre away otherwise you can get headaches due to the lower pixels per sq cm.

Depends on which HDTV resoultion you choose.
    HD ready - 1366* 768 Pixels
    Full HD -1920 * 1080 Pixels.

    A lot of the 19" monitors seem to be 1280 * 1024.
    I've a 22" monitor & its 1680 * 1050 Pixels,
Although the larger the monitor size the resolution also increases.

Not sure what a full HD would be like for general PC stuff, but for playing PS3, XBOX360 games, Blu ray movies full HD would be the optimum, although the price may need to be considered too.

i have my laptop connected to a 720p 1080i 26" samsung tv via a vga cable.
it looks excellent for games and movies however i cant use it as a monitor for internet etc for too long as it's much too bright and refresh rate is only 60hz.

at the resolution that i set it at for movies etc its fine if your a meter away any more and the text while as clear as a normal monitor is just too small to read comforably if your too close you;d have a blinding headache.

As a previous poster stated it all depends on what you will do most with it,
if you have an xbox 360 bear in mind there are vga cables available that would allow you to connect to a standard pc monitor and look very very nice on it.

I cant tell you how fun it is to play TF2 on a 42" screen. So what if the res is 1680x1050, I'm still sitting 12 feet away from the screen so whats the difference? :p

I'd go for a HDTV if I was you if it's only a oner in the difference.

I use my telly for PC use and it works fine for all types of computing, plus you can use the HDTV for other stuff.
