    Hi,

A question on classic insurance, I've bought a BMW 1988 from England, picking it up on Sat- do cars have to be manufactured pre 88 or are cars manufactured in 88 allowed. So any ideas who's the cheapest insurer at the min- used Quinn last year, got a quote just there- too much- 1500 for 26 year old male, 1 years no claims.

    cheers

Ahhh classic status is a bit more than 20 years old I think mate something more like 25/30... maybe I am just confusing it with the classic status for motor tax.

Any way best thing to do is join a classic car club and if they are worth their salt they will have a group scheme with some insurance group.

Dont quote me on this, but I think I recall reading somewhere that is was 83 or older. The lads on the classic forum here might be able to help you too.

have a read of the stickies, essentially 30 years old for tax and for insurance you'll have to ring around.

I think insurance is 20+ years, I have a 1986 car on a classic policy with AXA. You do have a main car covered on its own policy, don't you?

Irish Vintage Society in Kilkenny will insure if its 20 years old and on the UK reg too but you'll need an everday car insured as well, I think AXA will too.

spiderdan - First Ireland will insure cars as classics from 20y/o (and even younger in some cases) even as your main car. 01-8820800

dont worry about it, 1500 is quite cheap, my old man was paying 1250 for a 325i sport... though he's got a Good few years ncb.... once you hit 30.... ncb isnt needed ;)
