DVB-S (Via PCI Tuner) Help (Newbie)

    Hi All,

I have moved into a new apartment. Their is a dish setup but the Sky Box removed when previous owner moved out. I purchased an AverMedia A700 DVB-S tuner PCI card and figured it would be simple to hook it up to the cable from the wall. However not been the case. Has anyone set one up before? What Satellite/LNB settings should I be using? The cable from the wall connects to a black transformer with DISH on one side and TV on the other. Is this transformer required or should a cable from the LNB outside be connected directly to the PC?

    Any advice appreciated.

(Mod please move this if in wrong location)

Cable from your dish directly into the PCI Card and use the cards software to
    scan for sat channels

    Hi peneau,

Many thanks for your reply. Thats exactly what I did. However its not that clear cut. You must select options like the satellite (Astra/Freebird) etc. Then prompted enter your LNB settings. There is no option to just Scan all or an easy autosetup.

    REgards,

    Alan.

If the dish was setup for sky previously, you can tell your software its Astra 2D (28.2') (it might give you that option in a pull down list). As for lnb settings, depends on the options its asking you. I use dvbviewer and the only option it asks me about lnb is wether or not there is a diseqec switch.
With dvbview I can go a scan on a specific satelitte or do a blind scan, all the other options such as frequences etc etc I dont touch (in fact dont have to)

Many thankssyboit. Will give it a try this evening. I presume dvbview will work with my card. Thanks for the pointer.

Oh one more thing. When the cable from the LNB comes through the attic and out of the wall socket it is attached to a black box. It has SAT on one side and then on the other it has TV and another black cable comes out of this. The black box can be powered from a wall socket. Is this required to power the LNB? Do I need to keep this in the loop or just connect directly to the cable coming from the wall outlet?

Dvbviewer supports a lot of cards, you have to purchase this software though. Not sure if there is a demo available or not.

I've know idea what that black box (transformer) is for, I've only ever seen cable coming straight from the lnb on the dish to the satbox receiver/pci sat card. You shouldnt need any power to run the lnb.

You might get some better responses on the blackbox if this thread was in the satellite seciont.
