Toilet lights?

I was in Dublin over the weekend (All-Irl Semi's) and I have noticed that every male toilets has a blacklight as the lighting rather than normal lighting. It seems to be the norm in the pubs in the City centre and restaurants too. Why don't they replace them with fluorescent lights as the energy used by them would probably be less than the blacklights.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Or is something done especially on match day to confuse us Culchies? seeing your pee come out in green luminescent is weired enough, before you have a few points on you.

Anyone shed light on it! (no pun intended!)

It prevents drug addicts from finding their veins so they can't shoot up in the toilets. Or so I have heard.

the veins are alot harder to find under UV, although i've only ever seen them in public toilets, and the take aways, didn't see them in any pubs or restarants

They've got them in the wimmins toilets as well. I don't normally think deeply about the veins in my wrists but I always try to spot them when I'm in one of those toilets :D

Junkies usually don't have much in the way of visible veins anyway. They just know where to stick the needle.

They can just draw on the vein in marker so they can still see it anway. Clever folk, these junkies..

I dunno, I've found junkies to be pretty innovative at times.

It's off topic, but I think putting drug addiction down to stupidity is simplifying it a bit too much.

They are also used to stop coke-heads due to the fact that it hard to see the line under the blacklight.
