Maternity Leave Benefits - Fixed Term Contract

    Hi,

I have just started a new job (1 month ago). My new employer pays salary during maternity leave - ie. tops up the difference between Social Welfare payment and your salary. I however am on a 2 year fixed term contract and want to know if I am entitled to this benefit. I am not pregnant but I am just wondering what my entitlements would be if I did become pregnant.

    Any opinions?

No one on this board can answer it as it depends on how your contract is written.

Well could you possibly give me some indication on what to look out for on how my contract is written or where to go to for advice on how to interpret the way my contract is written in terms of entitlements?

Without seeing your contract it is impossible to say, but you should defintily take a look at the PROTECTION OF EMPLOYEES (FIXED-TERM WORK) ACT 2003 and the Maternity Protection Acts.
You can download both at http://www.irishstatutebook.ie
