Hey i was wondering could anybody help me out with something:

In short i've bought an ex-display 60 gig ps3 off a guy who was closing his local game shop and was selling the lot. Happy days!

I was pretty happy because i got it dirt cheap, nothing wrong with the console because it was in a case thing, the controllers have a little wear, but its not noticeable.

But heres my gripe, i took it home and didnt get time to have a go until yesterday and found out it is on "display" mode or something, like it will play a blu ray no bother (The dude gave me a few chucked in too :)), but it wont for games.

As i know a good deal about computers i thought i would reformat the drive, but thats all well and good, except im not sure if it will fix the problem.

Unless any of you wondeful people can give me some advice?

Do formatting problems stop a ps3 playing games?

I didn't think so. What exactly happens when you put a game disc in?

Apparently, if you go to System Settings -> Security Settings and then press: L1 + R1 + Select + Square it will unlock a display model. This might depend on the firmware version that's running on the system. I don't know if it actually works, as I've never had to do it myself.

    Ok here is my update:

I done what gloobag suggested and a password input screen came up..

    More problems.

Long shot here, but is there a generic password code for these models?

Or would downgrading the firmware work?

What firmware version does the system have at the moment? There's a specific unlock code for each firmware y'see. If you can give me that I might be able to help you out :)
