Unfortunately it was only a matter of time before this scumbag realised that he could settle in Ireland relatively easily and out of reach of the UK tabloids:eek:

Yesterday his lawyer Giovanni di Stefano revealed that Glitter -- real name Paul Gadd -- planned to move here because it is the "best place" for him

Well that's nice. Let the word go forth: "Convicted paedophile? Come to Ireland, we'll welcome you with open arms."

But then we've got so many of these scumbags already, what's one more? He'll be right at home, sure.

You are all a bunch of bloodthirsty hounds here! There is a reason why people go to prison: It is to be rehabilitated / reformed; not to forever have to suffer for their crimes. I say that we should give the guy a break and let him get on with his life.

    Kevin.

He wouldn't be the first or last convicted paedophile to move from the UK to Ireland - there was a documentary (on the BBC, I think) about registered sex offenders who slipped through the cracks and at least one of the offenders traced by the programme was living in Donegal.

Will try to dig up the name of the programme for anyone interested.

What seminary is he staying at?

Yes I think it was BBC that did that. They managed to follow some english guy around the country where he had different names. I think he was involved in some sort of youth club discos as well. From Bolton or somewhere NW England from memory. It showed up the ineffectiveness of police/gardai co-operation in tracking these convicts.

All those with children in favour of this raise your hands.

Come on, I haven't got all night...

I knew that someone would take this 'cheap shot' at my comment. My, how predictable you are Hagar... ...

Kevster, he's a predator on children. Face it.
He's a fucking dangerous deviant who has to be kept locked up for ever and ever. He will never be different. He can't help himself. We can't help him. I can however keep him as far away from my kids as possible.

Michael Jackon and now Gary Glitter, sheesh.

So he wants to move here, who cares. As for Kevster, Gary Glitter hasn't shown any signs of rehabilitation. He's just moved to another country where it was easier to abuse children to continue doing what he wants to do.

how quaint, we are now importing scumbags. obviously havent enough of our own here.

Kevster, i agree that SOME people are rehabilitated by prison however u dont think anyone convicted of a sex crime can be rehabilitated. he may never commit again, fingers crossed, but he is still one sick, perverse individual and he wont have an easy life here. he is scum and should be treated as such.

For sure it won't be long before he is outed here. The English paedo in Donegal has been already chased out. My bet is that Glitter will be chased out by Christmas. I'm with Hagar on this one.

Im not a fan of witch hunts, but to be fair, this is a different kettle of fish then any old criminal who went to jail. You talk about rehabilitation? He went to jail for acting on his urges and impulses with kids. He'll come out possibly more in fear of acting on them, but rehibilitated? He'll still have the same urges and impulses for children he had before, which is hardly the ideal scenario for his new society.

What if he decides to register here on Boards? Maybe he already has! That's a terrifying prospect. The Government here needs to tighten it's security regarding sex offenders. It is terrible and is being used as a net because it is a viable option for them.

Thats a wonderful thing to say and really paints a good picture for our country.

Another one to add to the many that escape to here, about time the laws were changed.

Apparently he was wondering why everyone was looking at him while he walked around his local swimming baths the other day. It turns out the 's' had fallen off his Speedo trunks.

If he had murdered a child, or broken a child's legs with a sledgehammer, he would not be so pursued after being released.

That guy has been back in the county in the past few weeks. Though he probably left again, as there's charges against him for smashing a photographer's camera, when he was spotted.

That's extremely unfair on the countless law-abiding, decent priests in the Church.

Hasn't he already re-offended? Child porn on computer first. Them his trip to thailand. He wasn't curious, he wasn't researching a part, he's got sick urges and will likely act again.

How many of those were part of the conspiracy of silence that lasted 40/50 years?
They heard no evil, saw no evil, spoke no truth.

You cannot claim that those who committed, conspired to commit or hid the atrocities are in the majority.

I can and I do. No only the priests but the bishops who were responsible for moving the offenders from parish to parish as their offences came to light and the archbishops who knew full well what was going on. They came up through the ranks you know, they knew what was going on without a shadow of a doubt.

He's been banned from traveling abroad. Excellent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,846 ✭✭✭✭eth0_

I am not defending the man for he has shown no signs of rehabilitation and denies any wrongdoing, HOWEVER...how can the UK government ban him from travelling outside the country? He has served his sentence, he hasn't commited any crimes in the UK (that we know of) since his infamous trip to PC World with his laptop many years ago.

Half the people on this thread sound like Daily Mail readers. I suppose you want that mentally ill guy who jumped off the balcony in Crete and killed his son to be sent to jail in England when he is discharged from psychiatric care in Crete?
