Advice on how to market product

I have a software product that is near completion aimed at financial services companies. I have made a list of companies who I think could benefit from this product, some in Ireland some abroad.

I want to contact these companies and make them aware of my product. I havent the first clue how to do this. Do I do up some glossy brochures and send them to the MD and follow up with a phone call?

Does anyone have any advice, I have no idea how companies go about generating sales or even getting their foot in the door.

    Here are my top tips:
    1. What are the key benefits for the financial services companies to use your product?
What is the financial benefit or time saving benefit? Why should they use it?
    2. Include these benefits in a direct mail letter to the company. Include a headline to grab their attention and/or some gimmic to differentiate you from all the other letters they get.
    3. Find out who you need to send it to and address to them personally. Hand write the envelope so it looks more personal.
    4. Then most important of all is to follow up with a call. Be clear on the objective of your call, are you selling the product there and then or do you need to meet with them first?
    5. Ask them lots of questions to find out if they understand how they could benefit from using the product.

This should help to get you started. I have used this approach myself and it works. Got more tips if you need them...

Thanks getresults. I would have thought that as soon as the person knows its an unsolicited sales call they would make some excuse and hang up, or that it would be impossible to get the relevant person on the phone at all. Has that been your experience or do you find that people are interested to hear about new products?

Getresults is on the ball there.

I also find that if you're up front and coscise about what you're offering. Also be friendly, but not too friendly. . . nothing worse when a sales rep calls you up and acts like he's your best mate.

Hello HomeOwner, there will always be some people who are not interested and will want to get off the phone quickly because you caught them at a bad time. But generally it means no for now and not no forever. As long as you are sincere about offering them something that is of value and will save them time and money then you will find most people will be interested in talking to you.

The first and easiest place to start would be a phone call to the companies you think it would benefit. explain to them what it will do for them and ask for their feedback
