    HI,

I ve recently started running/joggin on the treadmill. I do about 5-7 mins running around 9kph then walk for 2 mins - for about 25-30mins. What kind of speed should i be going? I m 5ft 1" so my legs arent that long ;) so cant go that fast! My aim is to lose weight and get fit and any advice offered would be great. I also do the bike to warm up, the crosstrainer for about 15 mins and then some weights. Going to join a body pump class aswell.

    Thanks

A good guide when you are just starting out is to run at a speed which will allow you to hold a halted conversation (i.e. you should be breathing abit too deep for a normal conversation). This means your heart rate is raised sufficiently for you to gt a good workout. Gradually decrease the amount of time you spend walking and when you can run the entire session, start to increase the speed.

I find the crosstrainer will help with your running stamina - keep up the intensity. You're walking for 5-7 mins - could just try to start running earlier, once you feel like you've caught your breath from your last 2 min run. And/or push out the two mins. Even just one bout of 3 mins today. Two next week and so on. When you make the effort, you'll see progression surprisngly quickly on the treadmill.
The bars you hold onto on the treadmill/machines in gyms might not be the best guide. Most of the time they don't take an accurate reading, or are not calibrated properly.

Ahh ok! Sorry - I skim read your post. It won't be long until you'll be doing 10 straight. I would say, when you get to a good time (about 15 mins) up the speed too. You'll find once you go over 10/15 mins it won't be long until you hit the 30 mark! Best of luck!
