I have a couple of others to follow with a similar (and unfamilair to me) subject matter. Your views are, as always, very much appreciated.

Nice one TelePaul, like the image but wouldn't be wild about the border.

I'd like to say that the double border is just a silly phase I'm going through....but it might be here to stay!

    Here's another

    Hey, these are great shots!

First shot is good but doesn't grab me at all.

However that 2nd shot you posted is excellent. A wonderful ethereal atmosphere, the sleaziness of the city, the wonderful reflection of the street lights on rain water from the ground. The processing is spot on and the composition draws your eye down the street drinking in the big easy.

Nice shots Paul - any chance of posting up some colour ones? I've never been, but New Orleans always puts me in mind of colour, particularly reds and oranges for some reason...

When i saw the first shot i was kind of bemoaning a lack of detail or something but the second shot kind of drove home what i think you were trying to do?

I love the soft light and the BW conversion in the second shot, makes it look eerie and almost foggy etc. Basically adds some mystique to the night time shot.

Reminds me of old Noir very much.

I really like em paul - the second more so than the first. But i think the B/w treatment is very appropriate and although the noise level is up and the brights are bleeding a little, i think it works very well.

    Nice one.

Are you in NO now? I'd start running for the hills if you are!

As mentioned above, the second one is excellent. I can nearly hear music in it when I look at it.

Thanks so much everyone. It's weird, when I processed the first shot, I had one of those moments of clarity where you think "hmmm...I could be onto something here." I'm very pleased with the way the first one turned out, and in fact, I was so pleased that I figured I'd see what I could do with the second shot...I think it's an inferior picture, so it's interesting to see that all of you are of a different view.

The first shot is alot punchier right? It's alot cleaner, the second is a bit hazy and I can't seem to clean it up.

I think possibly i find the second shot more to my liking because it does a better job of putting me in the city so to speak.

Taken from street level, i can clearly see the names of the bars, i can see the people, it also hints at FAR more possibility to explore. I can see side alleys, i can see the bend in the road.

I always look for the story in a photo which is maybe why i like the second one more, a lot more "possibility" in it i think!

Ta doll! Uhmm yeah, it was a pretty cool place. There's this incredible balance between movement and timeless - as soon as you go to the suburbs, it becomes very rural and very...continental maybe? There were so many photo opportunities, but as a person I'm just not socially comfortable enough to snap away...particularly in New Orleans, I just felt very self-conscious walking down the street with a camera on show. It wasn't so bad in memphis...Beale Street attracts a pretty young crowd.

Here's one just for you - in hindsight, I think it's waaay too dark. Might revisit it in photoshop.

Ah yeah I get the "not socially comfortable enough to snap away" thing!!! I'm very like that myself!!! Even here in Ireland!!!

Still you got to be there!!! I'm sure it was a great experience!!!

    Memphis???!!! How cool!!! :D

No no I think that photo is awesome!!! I love it!!! I love how dark it is!!! It works really well!!!

    Great great capture!!!

Even with all of NO's troubles its still a place I would love to visit!!!

I want to go to Memphis now!!! :P :D

Really like the 2nd and 3rd ones Telepaul, there's a very unique grimy style to them.

Thanks fluffyVW, inibaz. I'm just gonna keep going with the grimey urban stuff, ahve a couple more to show.

Fluffy, Memphis is about 500 miles North-West of New Orleans. And Nashville is about...hmmm....300ish miles East of Memphis? So you can kinda do them in a loop. The people are incredible, but there's such cultural disparities. In Nahsville, country music rules all. Memphis is the home of blues music - and the home fo Elvis. And the New Orleans is just a mix of everything....Cajun (Acadians), Creole, Voodoo, Soul, Blues, Jazz, Hustler girls...ahem. Everything.
