recently had a broken 17'' benq tft donated to my collection of useless pieces of computers. there doesn't seem to be any blunt force trauma on it so im guessing something small died.
ive never opened up a tft before though, is it much work? should i swallow my pride and bring it to a repair shop?

    any help/advice would be appreciated.

Just buy a new one, would work out cheaper.

    Plastic,

If your handy with a screw driver, give it a go. I'm like you. I keep adding to my collection. My most recent was a proview LCD 17", No VGA on the end of it. Took my time and now have a working until for the price of a maplin VGA plug.

Post the fault with the unit and I'll see if I can point you in the right direction.

Removing a laptop screen was probably the most delicate procedure I ever did on a computer but that doesn't mean it was all that difficult. Its easy to understand, you just need a steady hand.

But this is a standalone tft monitor? I really dont know why you'd bother. Its not like the screen is tied to anything vital, like $1300 of hardware in my case.

    cheers for the replies.

@robbie: the fault is basically that there's absolutely no picture, as if it were turned off. power leds are on. so i think its a safe enough bet that the problem isnt in the power or data inputs. possibly between the power and screen itself.

@overheal: it's more of a project really, have it lying around and seems a waste to just chuck it. and yeah its a standalone 17'' tft.
