SPRAY TAN - NEED TO KNOW SOME THINGS

Hi I have a wedding in less than two weeks and was thinking of getting a spray tan. Now i've just returned from lanzarote and i got a nice light tan (was only there for a week) so i'm happy but it'd need to be more noticeable. Now i'm quite itchy and sore at the joints of my arms but i'm hoping this will clear up by the time i would get my tan bt i'm also nervous that i'll react to the spray tan - has anyone experienced this?

I'm living in Cork so i'm wondering if anyone knows of a really good place in the city that does a great tan and doesnt leave you looking like a bottle of fanta!

Also what time do most of these places open til cos i'd have to get it done after work (finish at 5). It'd be ok to get it done the night before the wedding wouldn't it? Do you have to wash some of it off or something or whats the story? Also you have to prepare your skin for the tan beforehand right?

Sorry if this is a bit of a rant but i really want to look well at this wedding! If there are any spray tan 'experts' out there I'd appreciate your comments!

    Thanks!:)

Keep applying some good moisturiser to your elbows and you'll be grand in no time. If you have sensitive skin and are worried about reacting to the tan then ask the beauticians advice. I've never had any problem with reacting to spray tans anyway, I had mine done last year and my acne was quite bad at the time and was getting patches of dry skin but it looked perfectly fine!

Get it done maybe 2 days before the wedding, definitely not the night before as the day afterwards you still look a bit too dark. You get your tan done and leave it over night, where it develops or whatever you want to call it, then the next day you shower and wash the stuff off.

Yes salons will be open after 5, you'll find Thursday that they'll stay open later. I'm not based in Cork so I can't advise you of anywhere to go.

Thanks a mil for that Lil' Smiler! Unfortunately the wedding is on a thursday (!) so hopefully theyre'll be some place open after 5 on a tuesday! Do you know anything about the different tans cos i read somewhere that St Tropez is meant to be better for people with a darker skin tone and fake bake is better for people with lighter skin tone - don't know how true that is....:)

Fake Bake is light enough that you could get it done on Wednesday lunchtime and return to work. Prepare your skin a few days beforehand by exfoliating to within an inch of your life and wash off on the Thursday morning. Not from Cork so can't recommend anywhere there unfortunately.

I would have to disagree on the Fake Bake. I love it and it comes up nice and dark on me as I have naturally fair skin but love having a noticeable tan, BUT I definitely would not return to work after getting it done. It leaves a top coat (obvious) on your skin after application and it is not very attractive! St Tropez also does this. If you get it done in the evening then there is no problem but otherwise I would avoid it. California tan or SunFX both work well but they don't have the dark topcoat so if you have to get it done at lunchtime they might be better options. Just make sure you have exfoliated well and do not moisturise the day you are getting it done. Wipe any deoderant you may have on off before getting it done too. And definitely don't shave that day. It will stick in your pores and you'll end up with patchy legs etc.

    Hi Leahyl,
If getting spray tan done try not to get your skin wet (shower, rain etc) for a good while afterwards as it will wash off the tan & you'll end up looking a bit strange :D Get yourself some gloves for use at home afterwards for dishes washup etc.
Also you can put a little moisturiser on your hands/feet if you like so the tan isn't as obvious there as I find they often look way too dark afterwards.

Hi - Fantasy tan is realy good and comes in a couple of different shades. You'll be fine getting done day before as they just spray on, leave develop over night and then rinse the next day. Escape Spa in the imperial hotel do fantasy tan and Coco's in ballincollig www.coco.ie both are open until at least 8 on Thurs

Thanks for all the advice everyone! I'm still a bit nervous that it'll all go horribly wrong but i was talking to the sister of the groom and she's getting hers done in Asana Beauty Salon in the Douglas Mills which is supposed to be great so i'm gonna get a trial tomorrow and then if it works out i'll get it Wednesday for wedding on Thursday!:D It's only 30e for all over tan which sounds like good value to me! The girl was really nice on the phone so it put me more at ease! I'll let ye know how it turns out!

Thanks for your suggestions "Corcaigh Abu"! Up the Rebels! HA!:D

I get it done fairly regularly.

Fake bake does look ok if you were to go back to work, although I personally wouldn't.

Only moisturise places like hands, feet, elbows and knees.

Have a shower just beforehand if possible and wear very loose, dark clothing and flip flops.

    HTH!
