I'm going to new york to shop shop shop in one week and need a large suitcase for it! Any ideas where i can get one? The one i have at the mo is 27" and is a bit on the small size. I had a look in some shops but they all seem to be around that size.

And for those of you who've been did you bring 2 suitcases or what? I'm not sure which way to work it!

Just a word of warning, I know a good few people who have been stopped by customs on the way home from NY and charged customs on everything they bought.

For bags I would suggest bringing a suitcase and a holdall inside it. Bring as little with you as possible so you can fit more in coming home!

Bring as little as you can over and buy what you need over there :)

They sell big suitcases in Debenhams.

What I'd suggest though is just bringing the suitcase you have and buying a cheap bag over there in Century 21, or bringing one over with you if you have room.

I brought home two cases from new york. It's not too difficult, if you get a taxi to the airport, grab a trolley, check in your cases and just collect them at Dublin Airport on another trolley. So tis managable to have two cases.

I'd go for two rather than one as one might be far too heavy for you and the airline. Plus the odds of the airport losing your two cases are less than them losing one.

Regards the customs, take all the tags off what you buy, how would they know you bought them there then?

Actually now that I think of it I came home from Florida by myself with 3 cases, so it's definitely doable :D once you're within your flight weight. i.e. I was allowed two cases and my third was hand luggage size and I just filled it with light clothes so nothing was overweight.

Don't walk through Customs carrying oodles of Macy's bags. That's generally a bit of a giveaway, but surprising the number of people who do it.

Buy bags over there. Saves you a bundle.
Walmart are OK but TK Maxx usually have a decent selection too.

I put everything I needed into a small suitcase (carry-on size) and put the small suitcase into a large one. I put all of my shopping into the large one then, and came home with 2. I left all receipts in NYC and ripped off the tags from the clothes I bought, so there's no proof I actually bought anything.

Oh yeah i never thought about the tags, thanks for that!

Yeah i could just pick something up over there i guess. So i think i'll bring my regular suitcase, and was thinking of bringing an weekend bag as my carry on..if i need anymore than that i'll buy it. Anyway thanks!

Marshalls is another shop like TJ Maxx. If you can't find a decent suitcase in one you'll find it in the other. Only problem buying a case over there is that it takes up valuable shopping time!!! ;)

Ha, yeah it'll have to be a quick dash in and out! :P

As long as you don't try to go for a pretty one it should only take a few minutes. Find out where the nearest place to buy a cheap one is, go in early, and forget about it!
