Hi I have just replaced my Dell inspiron 5100 with a new Dell Vostro 1510 but I am after finding out that there is no facility for a connection to a diall up internet service on the new one. My local computer/ phone shop told me today that I will not be able to connect because I don't have the broadband facility in my area.
Does anyone know can an adaptor be got to connect the diall up into the broadband socket on the computer?

You won't be able to connect to your network port but you can get a usb modem and connect through that or PC Card / Expresscard modem depending on the slot on the laptop.

Is that USB modem the thing that 02, Vodafone, three, etc sell for around €100 and charge €30 per month to use?
I am already paying Eircom for the service I have been always using, although it is terrible slow at times.
    What is the PC card?

No the usb modem is for dial-up connections using the phone line in your house. A PC Card slot is the slot on the side of the laptop about the width of a credit card but looking up the specs for the Vostro you would need an ExpressCard modem as that's what the Vostros have (think of it as a the newer type of PCCard slot).

Prob find it cheaper to use a usb modem as the ExpressCard modem are a bit more expensive I think.
