Problem with my TV screen

I have a problem with my TV. It shows the picture and all but the colour is very distorted on most of the screen. For example, if the screen should be showing something blue, for example, it's red on one wavy section of the screen and green on another.

It's not a flatscreen telly. It's one of those box-shaped bulky ones. It was bought new about 3 years ago.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? Any ideas how to fix it without paying out the big bucks?

    Cheers.

Sorry for bumping this thread, but would anyone have any idea how to fix the above problem? It'd save me a lot of time, money and hassle.

    Thanks.
