This should be a great gig. I can't wait to see them, especially after the release of 'Watershed'. Great album.

Stellar line up! I haven't heard the new Opeth yet but they've always been great live but Cynic playing too!?! I'm lost for words. I have The Ocean's first album but wasn't too hot on it. Prefer the other band who are just called Ocean.

And why must your Leaving be on in June??? If you're living in Dublin, go to it, its far enough away, its only one night.

Maybe he means he is leaving Ireland or something? I'm not big into Opeth but I wouldn't mind seeing them live. What are the supports like? I don't know them.

I gotta say , i never really got into Opeth, but The Ocean sound really good, and Cynic are not half bad, I reckon I will head to this.

    Got my ticket awhile ago

Looking forward to this - Opeth were great at Bloodstock.
Have to say, Cynic bored the beejasus out of me at Graspop last year. Not knowing their stuff, I was looking forward to them after hearing so many good things, but they really didn't impress me at all.
Have never heard The Ocean - must give them a listen.

This will be time number four seeing Opeth. I wasn't going to go because I didn't enjoy the last one at all (I think it was the Ghost Reveries tour in Vicar St where Primordial supported). Stupid drunk kids, they ruin everything. The fackers.

I cant wait for this gig! Got my ticket a while ago. Was at the one in June 2006 and It was amazing.

Watershed is great so I'm looking forward to hearing some new songs live

I meant it's a Tuesday during my Leaving Cert year, I won't be allowed go. I'm in Cork so it's a long trek up back and forth. :(

I'm all the way in Limerick. Does anybody now what its like to get within a reasonable distance of Vicar street by car? Not sure how I'm gonna work this one.

I use a car park across the river from the four courts. Its in back of a filling station. Once your parked up you can go up the hill by the church (Christ Church, I think) and you're less than 5 minutes from Vicar Street. Thats what I usually do if I drive up.

If you can read this, you're too close!

It does sound like a brilliant lineup. A huge fan of Opeth as I have their last 2 studio albums. Gonna be an awesome tour. Can't wait.

Saw Opeth at Wacken this year but 'their set was waaay too short so I'm definitely going to this! I haven't heard much of The Ocean's stuff but everyone I know who has thinks they're brilliant.

just a quick question to everyone going to this gig - have your tickets been delivered yet?
i cant remembr if mine were yet.if they have been then i may have lost them!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,181 ✭✭✭DenMan

Why does it have to be a Tuesday? grrrrr. Stupid course. That's one gig I cannot make.

Watershed's great in my opinion. Ghost Reveries was slightly lacking, it just lacked a certain flair. I'm waiting with baited breath for this show, and the Ocean will be immense!

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 6,817 ✭✭✭jenizzle

By the looks of it, it could be sold out so get yer tickets now.

The only thing that disappointed me was that the new(ish) drummer got his girlfriend to sing on 'Coil'. Didn't think there was any need for her there. According to the wiki, they recorded AIC's 'Would' for the album...

Might even be later than that. It says on this page that the first band are on at 8pm so by the time The Ocean and Cynic play I say it will be closer to 10pn before Opeth get on stage.

was thinking that alright hopefully..cheers..i was trying to get through to akerfeldt on the landline but all i got was his answering machine..

I think Opeth are to be onstage about 9.30. They're playing for 1hr 45mins and are to be off stage at 11.15.

    Only a week to go....
Cant wait to see Cynic also.

What would you like Opeth to play based on an hour and half?

    I would like the following

    Lotus Eater
    A Fair Judgement
    Baying of the Hounds
    The Moor
    Burden
    Bleak
    Black Rose Immortal
    When

I know I am probably dreaming with Black Rose Immortal, have they played this much live as it would take up the bulk of the show. Would love to hear it all the same!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,404 ✭✭✭spiritcrusher

I haven't seen a set-list from Opeth in a while but recently enough I believe they were playing stuff like Serenity Painted Death, Wreath, Heir Apparent, Lotus Eater, Night and the Silent Water all of which are pretty sweet and I haven't seen live. I think someone also mentioned they've started playing When again. Actually I'd love to hear April Ethereal.

However, as this is a brand new tour the set-list will more than likely be shaken up a bit. All I really want is a fair difference from the last few times I've seen them.

That would be an amazing set. Nice choices Nea

    I would like to see:

    Serenity Painted Death
Blackwater Park (again, saw it in 2006)
    Bleak
    Weakness
Deliverance (again, saw it in 2006)
The Baying Of The Hounds (again, saw it in 2006)
    To Bid You Farewell
The Amen Corner (again, saw it in 2006)
    In Mist She Was Standing
Under The Weeping Moon (again, saw it in 2006)
    The Moor
    Moonlapse Vertigo
Face Of Melinda (again, saw it in 2006)
    Porcelain Heart
    Hex Omega

    But that's not gonna happen...

Yeah, all the standing tickets are gone, just seating left :(

Would love to go but i just cant get back from Galway. Wish they'd do more of a tour here. Even just 2/3 venues would be enough. So glad they arent playing in the Point like Tool did. Such a shiiite venue. Sound is terrible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,073 ✭✭✭Nea

    Heir Apparent
    The Grand Conjuration
    The Lotus Eater
    Hope Leaves
    Deliverance
    Demon Of The Fall
    The Drapery Falls

This was the setlist from Denmark tho it was a festival. Just hope we get something from Morningrise even if its Night and the Silent Water again. Love that album!

Worth the price of admission alone to see Ocean - brain pummeling heaviness at it's best. For those not yet in the know about Ocean check out their Precambrian album. Very highly recommended stuff.

Great choices mp3guy. Especially In The Mist She Was Standing. I f*ckin love that song

Among many of the others :P

It's funny. People of a certain age are calling this the Cynic gig, rather than the Opeth gig :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,967 ✭✭✭Pyr0

I've been asking people since I've heard if it "Are you going to the Cynic gig ?!"

I'm only going for Cynic, so to me its a Cynic gig :pac:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

Oh you better believe I'm going for Cynic, but it's noce to have those other bands playing too :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,977 ✭✭✭mp3guy

    Setlist:

    Heir Apparent
    The Grand Conjuration
    Godhead's Lament
    The Lotus Eater
    Hope Leaves
    Bleak
    Deliverence
    Demon Of The Fall
    The Drapery Falls

Order might be slightly off. Great gig though, really enjoyed it. Half of The Ocean's and Half of Cynic's set was entertaining, the other halves were boring me a lot. Good crowd, but the usual one or two goons completely off their face/fighting.

Cynic were ****ing unreal. Opeth just bored me which is disappointing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,150 ✭✭✭Passenger

Superb gig. Cynic were terrific, great sound, they were tight and apart from the being 'a part of the Kingdom' remark I was very impressed by their deftness.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

Cynic were worth every second of the 16 year wait, I don't know what else to say. After a while it felt like Opeth were playing one exceptionally long song. I never usually walk out of gigs but they just bored the ****e outta me, which is a shame because I find their recorded material quite listenable.
