    This is something I've always been curious about, if you register that car back in Ireland again, do you still get the old plates, or will you be assigned 81-D-xxx?

    i would "try it on" and just send in for tax on it....3 months...and then get a duplicate tax book if that works and then NCT it....might work

    You get the old reg back. I did it with a 1986 car a while back, got the same reg back and the brown cardboard logbook too!
