    http://blogs.msdn.com/e7/default.aspx

It's only a few posts old but frankly I've been surprised at how interesting it's been. While it's not "detail heavy", it's not a PR-engineered whitewash job either.

Mods: I know it's theoretically windows-specific but it's a pretty wide ranging discussion over there and I think it would be of interest to other OS users too.

    I concur. :D

edit: Just reading it there from a purely OS engineering view....it is a bit marketing-ey, but a decent read none the less.

The one thing I think that's coming through so far is that while they're not going to admit Vista's a lemon, they've got the "slim it down" message on the table, even if they're not necessarily going to end up doing it. You do at least get the impression that a lot of the discussions Vista users have been having have also gone on inside Microsoft's OS team too.

The other thing that comes across is the very real problem of having to cater to so many conflicting interests in their design decisions.

Yeah....that does come across very clearly alright. When you see some of the edge case boot times it's pretty obvious that they're dealing with horrible installs riddled with rubbish or terrible hardware (or possibly a combination of both).

Looks quite interesting. Will probably give it a read tomorrow.
