Hi There, I am looking to use timber effect sash PVC windows, it seems there are a lot of UK and NI companies manufacturing them, does anyone know where I can get a list of suppliers in Ireland or have any recommendations. I found only a couple through Google etc.

Greatly appreciate if anyone here who has fitted sliding sash aluclad windows could let me know if they have had any problems with them, or would recommend a particular brand, or any to avoid.

    Thanks

    Hiya Wexfordbuild,
We are just about to move into our house and we have aluclad windows fitted. I have to say that they are absoluty fab, and everyone admires them when they come to see the build. We did look at PVC ones but there was just no comparison in both finish and energy rating. As the heating has just been turned on we need to wait a few weeks before the company that fitted them snags them but so far we had no bother with them. If you want the company details I can PM then on to you.

i am involved in pvc window trade, and while pvc sash are very good, i find that most people nearly faint when they hear how much they cost. ridiculous prices to be honest. obviuosly the celtic tiger is going strong still for all the posters here. i would reckonmend thinking about triple glazed glass units in whatever windows you get. a bit more expensive than double glazed but amazing heat retention and noise control. you can't even hear the rain when its pelting on the glass. great if you're in a high traffic area.

    happy hunting

We fitted pvc sash in our new build a month ago - I love them! Couldn't warrant the cost of timber/aluclad as I really just wanted the look tbh and as kitser said, the price is still a lot higher than your standard high energy rated, etc, windows....but it was the only thing I really wanted. One thing I will say though is price around and play people off against each other. I was disgusted with how much some companies were prepared to drop - that they could look me in the eye one day with a price and two days later could drop 7 or 8 grand, just like that. I'm not disgusted that they dropped the price! (it's all good for the consumer) but the fact they thought they would 'try their luck' with the high price first.
