I'm just starting to get into the whole motorsport scene, Night navigations is my starting point. Do you have to get your car fully insured for an event and if so can anyone tell me which insurer is the best one to go with

hey Matty good place to start into motorsport in Ireland. Great craic too!

You planning on driving? What car?

Event insurance is through MSI, it's called IRDS (Irish Rally Drivers Scheme) generally applied for along with your competitor licence. A premium is paid on the night of event and covers vehicles for duration of the event (including scrutiny, setting tripmeter, travelling through event & back to HQ).

Most competitors transport(trailer) competing vehicles to events, however if you need to drive to the event it is usually easy to do a temporary transfer of your standard insurance policy.

You starting with the Drumlin? Usually a challenging event! Good luck & hopefully bump into you at sign-on!

    Well Matty55,

Great to see new competitors getting involved in the best part of motorsport - the night navi. I hope you have the paper work sent off as you will need your licence and insurance to be able to do the Drumlin at the start of October. Have you any experience of Night Navi's ? Did you do any of the night classes or marshall at any events ?.. I'm not trying to put you off doing a navi but you will enjoy the events more if you know how they are run and what to do. Hope to see you somewhere on the mucky lanes of Ireland some night.

Roll on the Drumlin - Mucky tracks, Narrow lanes, farmyards and road goes - HEAVEN icon6.gif

Ahhh I can smell it already or what about that adrenlin filled moment when you place the nose of the car into the hole in the hedge and hope that there is a track on the other side and then the excitement of discovering the narrowest, muckest, whine bushed closed in lane ever, beating down it as hard as you dare and discover the timepoint that half of the other crews missed.icon6.gif

Ah Stop! I'd be sacked if the powers that be knew I was into this sick chat!

How's the new job going...just realised who was sharing the joys of the smell of sh!te! ;)

Well now depend on which new job you are refering to, and I have not figured out yet who I am sharing the sweet aroma of cow sh*te on a hot exhaust with...

Back to all things navi like, are ya doing the Drumlin?......

Not necessarily competing as yet, maybe help out, tail sweep or TP duties...plenty of odd jobs to volunteer for as you know well. Read the posts carefully...all the identification info you need is ther ;p

Hmmm - using my powers of deduction and a proccess of elemination and basically just having a stab in the dark here ( Haa rather appropriate considering we are talking about navi's) do we normally see you in a blue astra that has been in retirement for the past year or so, but is planning a major return on the Drumlin with weeboy at the wheel, or has all plans for a return to night navi's been "extinguished".

Back once again to all things navi related - Any ideas yet where drumlin is running from?, I believe dent man is coc. His native area is well run at this stage so he may come up with somewhere new.icon6.gif

PI shortymac! Nicely done...or not maybe???!!!!

No word of where HQ is, you not got the inside track now that you're working in the mainstream media?!

The 'undentifier' is indeed COC, should be some good navi tricks hopefully...would love to do it, no licence as yet & getting rather twitchy at this stage, can't remember which way is up on a map anymore! You still Semi-Ex?

Funny how night navs become popular at the onset of a recession, WRC builder cars vanishing into thin air...out with the old wreck for the cow's sh!te!

Please !!! - 1 year expert under me belt, and do you know enjoying it, you get out earlier on the road and miss out on the mayhem behind, i.e blocked lanes.. Can't wait till 1st weekend in October, having competed in all the rounds last year, I said no more night navi's for me, but now that its back to that time of the year again, I am getting the cold sweats and shakes just waiting for that first timepoint. I would not worry about sitting into the passenger seat with the map again, its just like riding a bike, you never forget...icon6.gif

Poor little ole me is still the junior then! Must say running in the top 3 on the road is much more of a buzz on the few occasions I have had the pleasure.

Any new rules for the season ahead?

No did not hear of any as of yet, but closer to the opening round, some may put their head up.. At the national prize giving they had an open forum and the lads and lasses had a good natter over the state of navi's and where they are going. Big issue was enteries, particularly in this region, where we have had reserve lists been used for the first time ever in night navi's, like if you decide to do the national championship you would like to think you would have an entry in all events... Scrutineers will be on high horse to sort out the cars as well, no harm mind you, a decent car draws less attention to the event. (Out the window goes the baaa baaaa baaaa exhausts). Looks like we could be in for another season of big enteries into night navi's, alot of crews heading that way as stages rallying is busting the pocket, and besides the navi lanes are more fun..
Just heard Patrick Eilliot is doing an interview on Northern Sound after six..icon6.gif
