Jebus, they juts played the most famous section of MLKs "I have a dream" speech and are inviting us to link it with the speech Obama will make later today.

    Save us!

One speech was a brave facing down of endemic, violent bigotry. While Obama will be merely singing for his supper.

    Mike.

bit harsh there i think mike

it is afterall the 40th aniversery of martin luther the kings famous speech so you can see why they might try to tie the two

Nothing to do with trying to cannonise Obama then?

Given the context, I think the republicans 'celebrity' drive is a stroke of genius. If this idea is planted in the public consciousness then every nauseating cover shoot of Obama will only serve to work against him.

Wow man, you're, like, so cool! I love your world weary cynicism and boredom, it's so endearing! You're right, RTE were bonkers to pick up on the fact that Obama's speech tonight will come on the 45th anniversary of King's Washington speech, even if auld Martin had an auld dream about a black man being in the White House one day - no, no, not as the gardener.

So yeah, down with this sort of thing! This Obama stuff is, like, way too fluffy and hopeful - and we can't be having that.

Sneer, sneer, smirk, smirk, the Republicans, like, rock. Go Mike.

I'm guessing that you're not a fan? Bully for you, etc.

Do you really think the fact that the first ever black US Presidential nominee made a hugely important speech on the 40th anniversary of the 'I have a Dream' speech should just be treated as being completely un-newsworthy? There is no 'Obama love-in'. If McCain has been largely ignored by the media here (pre-Sarah Palin anyway), compared to Obama, it's merely because there is undeniably little newsworthiness in yet another white, grey-haired member of the political establishment running for the presidency.

Sarah Palin was all over the news yesterday - was that a 'love in' too? Or, in your mind, do 'love ins' only happen where (arguably) left-leaning candidates are concerned?

if rte had a love -in policy they might have played his speech live.

I think he just has you down to a peg :P

It made perfect broadcasting sense to link the two. Quite a lot of the media did.

Well in that case mike, surely other people's opinions are allowed too? And its not like RTE magically came up with this connection themselves (they aren't smart enough for a start), its been talked about for weeks now, and I'd go so far as to say that the Dems probably scheduled the speech with the anniversary in mind for maximum impact and coverage.

Honestly i dont think it is too far fetched for Obama to become a reality.
Either previously predicted by MLK or any other prohet for that matter.
I guess we all have to wait and see regardless of our reservations and or support.

    @mike- You go!!
