I have someone to do makeup and hair,

Please pm me asap if you are interested.

I really hate when people do this. I get it all the time in Web Development forums, someone looking for something for free 'For your portfolio'.

If you want something done professionally pay for it. People here work very hard at what they do, and spend an awful lot of money on equipment. If you want them do some work for you, pay for it. Do you have any idea what even a basic studio set up costs?

I responded to the OP and expressed an interest in doing this if they were local, I get paid for Sports Photography (not much) and would like to expand my portfolio and see this as a good oppurtunity!

I am a Chef by trade and my first Job at 15 was unpaid as I wanted to gain expeirience, I got my Hair cut last week by a trainee and did not pay as expeirience was been sought, I have eaten free in restaurants doing dry runs of Menus.

If you dont want to work for nothing dont reply!

Did you walk into the hair dressers and say "Hi, I want a professional haircut and I don't want to pay for it. Does anyone need experience?"

Did you walk into the restraunt and say "Hi, I'm hungry and want some free food, do you need to test a menu or anything?"

I am not complaining about the fact that people do things for free sometimes to build up experience. I am complaing about people who come into a forum full of photographers and expect us to work for nothing. I'm sure she expects to get paid when she does a singing gig.

I think I'm gonna find a singing forum somewhere and tell them that I want a band for my wedding, I want them to have all their own top of the line equipment and I want them to play for 'The experience'.

I like having people sit in the Studio for me. It's a hobby for me & so do not look at as a money making exercise.

My job gives me my income & I have another income from Photography which seems to be paying for gear.

If you don't want to do it then let it pass.

I don't think you understand how much of a problem this is for people who make a living from this kind of work. It's obscene how companies starting out (and even established ones) expect a professional service from creatives then turn around and say they're doing you a favour by giving you the opportunity to work for nothing.

If a customer turned around to them and said they'll take their product and pay nothing for it because they're giving them the opportunity to get rid of it, they might think differently about it.
If you don't want to do it then let it pass.
The problem is this attitude depresses incomes for creatives overall. I'm not familiar with the professional photography sector, but I've seen it too many times in graphic design/visual communication.

I don't have any problem with people doing things for free for up and coming artists, who can't afford something (as distinct from those who should be paying for it). Lets face it we've all got help along the way.

However, I think it's rather cheeky to look for that and not offer something in return.

    OP,

Will you sing at a wedding for me?
I am looking for someone who is not charging fees, and that just wants a bit of practice in a 'live' situation...

Would you be prepared to give your talent for free, in exchange for nothing?

(not really looking for a singer, just illustrating a point...)

OP, i suggest you offer some kind of information on your style of music, where the photos are likely to be used and for what.

I also suggest you state publically that you will be sure that the photographer receives full credit for the work, regardless of how far the work may go.

Finally, i suggest you give a rough idea of what you are looking for as expecting someone to show up and just take pics is unfair on the photographer who will be, at the end of the day, doing you a favour.

I'm going to bring this up with the rest of the Mods and decide on how we shall deal with these threads in future.

Until then, i believe the point has been made the people find issue with these posts so we will leave that type of response alone for now.

    Thanks guys.

Look don't post on this thread if you are not interested, go annoy someone else.

Yes it is probably cheeky your right, but I have been upfront about it. I know that there is some poeple who do it for a hobby and have no issues with this, so why should you all.

I have paid for a "professional photographer" in the past, and they were not great anyway, and I got 10 pics from it in the end. I paid a fortune for that, and it was just last year, so this is why I would like to not have to pay the full fee etc etc....

fyi, I have done many a gig for free to get experience, so why should it be any different for you guys if someone wants to do it.....

    I agree with Covey.

Personally I take shots for bands in my local area for them to use in return for passes to their gigs etc., and also because they're friends and I enjoy the experience/company.

But the OP offered nothing other than 'pictures for your portfolio'. If I wanted this, I'd ask friends. I'm sure we are all friends with someone who would sit for us.

There's no reason why anyone who is anyway serious about photography will take the offer up. I'm not saying no one will, but someone who can do it in a decent manner won't give up their time and put effort into something they get no thanks for - for somebody they don't know.

I SAID if anyone was interested to pm me, and those who did, I explained everything to them....

Well, having seen the attitude of the OP responses, I really doubt there will to many people rushing to do this.

Did you approach those places and say 'I am a singer starting out and want to get experience and am willing to preform for nothing'

Or did they contact you and say 'I want a singer but I don't want to pay for it.'

OMG you should get a job on this site, as you are never off it...

For future reference, i suggest you refer to my post.

For everyone else i think this thread has run it's course.

As i said, myself and the other Mods will discuss this issue and decide how we want it dealt with on the forum.

We'll let you know as soon as we have it sorted out.

I'm closing this thread for now before i end up slapping wrists.
