To me number 1 is too dark. the main part of teh light seems to be on the soft second spring rather than the first, so we are losing detail.
Is it just me or above the 2nd on have a haze of light (grey rather than black)?

(P.s. I much prefer your other spring shot http://www.joerogers.info/B%26W_Photos.html#8)

2nd shot is nice, I'd like to see the bee sharp rather than flower, and maybe crop/de-saturate the background, as the upper right hand side seems to be distracting.

Agree on the first. Nice composition but too dark.

Personally i prefer number 1, it reminds me of something from a sci-fi movie, very dark, oiley and metalic and i think that adds to the picture, although my one comment on it is that i think it might be a bit too tight.

The wasp one is a good picture, but doesn;t do much for me personally (i'm not a big yellow fan:) ) there is too little in focus for me.
    But thats just personal taste

    Nice efforts though

Thanks for the honest constructive criticism !! :-)

Esp on the hoverfly pic. I liked it though I dont know why! - but I do see the point about the sort of angular grey thing in the back being distracting.

I've no idea what #1 is.. nor does it really do anything for me.. sorry :(

#2 I like more, but I think you'd have been much better off with a macro lens for it, and proper focus.. it's just not as crisp as I think it should be.

Unfortunately I dont have the €€€ for an AF-S macro lens so I was using a +10 diopter on an AF-D lens which meant that I had to manually focus.
I must make do with the tools I have / can afford !!

Such things happen! Nice try though, circumstances taken into account :)
