Any competition where the question is something like "win an Apple iTouch by telling us who makes the iTouch?" is hardly going to be a matter of skill now is it?

When you add on the fact that answering it costs about 2.50 and it's a subscription service it just has to be a scam.

Also what's with all these gurning skanks on the ads for the "friendship" phonelines? Surely if you wanted to meet a woman it'd be a better idea to invest €20 on a night in a pub rather than phone chat?

€20? "Alright love can I get you a drink? Just one mind and you better be a dead cert. I only brought a score and I'm not interested in spending half my money if you're not going to put out."

You'd barely be able to pay the toilet busker for the privilege of washing your hands if you only brought 20 quid.

I dunno. From the amount of times those ads are on there's obviously a lot of people spending a lot of money on them! 20 is probably conservative.

Still though I more meant add the 20 to what you'd normally spend.

Fact for the day: All competitions, including legit ones, must have an "element of skill" involved, otherwise they're classed as a lottery, which requires a licence. However, it's the the interest of whoever's running the competition to get as many people as possible to enter, which is why the make the questions blindingly obvious.

This is true. Some of them are really irritatingly easy though.

Who played Muhammed Ali in the recent biopic of the former world heavyweight champion?
    • Kiera Knightley
    • Haley Joel Osmont
    • Will Smith
