Hi folks, [mods, if this belongs in 'Whats in the bag or another thread feel free to move]
Just wondering if anyone can comment on the Ping G10 irons? I need to buy new irons and was recommended these by Mc Guirks. I'm looking for a higher ball flight and am willing to sacrifice some distance for forgiveness. I'm off 15.

I haven't hit them but have picked them up in the shop recently. I'd be confident they would suit your needs. What I have tried that would also be suitable are the Callaway X 20 irons. They're also built for forgiveness and a high launch.

In general, Ping make good gear from Driver to putter. And the G10 range does seem to be especially good quality and very popular. I use the driver, 3 wood and hybrid.

McGuirks will have a demo 6 or 7 iron for most sets. It may be out on loan but I'd recommend calling up and asking them about it. If you take a G10 and maybe one or two other demos you'll get a much better idea of whats for you after an hour on the range.

I had the same dilemma, needed exactly what you needed and tried both the ping g10 and the callaway x20. I felt the ping g10 irons were a bit clunky and most of the time I got a draw. With the x20, i got the same ball flight but a truer hit. I ended up getting the x20.

Again I would recommend getting a demo in each and try on the course or range. I also tried the ping i10 and thats a beautiful club. I would also recommend a custom fit on whichever you chose, it has helped me with my irons, you would be surprised the difference a degree makes.
    Best of luck.

Nice one - cheers for the tip, gonna pick up a 7 and take it to Leopardstown Range at lunch and hit a few. Good idea.

I have the Ping G5s and they are a great set of irons.

So I took an X20 6 iron and a G10 7 and gave them a test run at the range.

Think I'm going to go with the G10's even though they are more €xpensive. I see what mccutchie means about being slightly clunky but I can get over that. The X20 is undoubtedly a far slicker looking club and the G10 looks a bit dull in comparison... but the G10 had a much nicer flight and felt much better.

For someone who hits low shots it was refreshing to see the ball fly that high up in the air. I took a few sneaky shots off the grass at the right edge of the range as well just to be totally sure. :D

    Cheers for the advice all.

I haven't seen the G10s but I hated the look of the G5 irons. They looked like they were made of cement

I bought a set of G10s last April.
Fantastic clubs. Totally Transformed my game.
Best iorns I have ever played with.
Totally converted Ping fan. Never played with Pings before then.
Only regret is why didn't I buy them sooner.
