    Hey,

First of all, I would absolutely love a job in this place (discount etc - I'm a big dvd buyer!), but I've been checking their website (http://hmv.com) but the only jobs available are in Bangor. Anytime I ask if they're hiring...they're not.

How do ya go about getting a job in HMV? If anyone has worked/is working for HMV can you please reply and let me know.

    Thanks,

    Ste

I worked there 10 years ago (the Cork one). Just handed in my CV at a time when they were apparently crying out for staff. There had been a mass exodus and I knew some of the people leaving/still there. That, coupled with the fact that I had done temporary work at another music retailer the previous Christmas, got me in there.

So I would advise: getting to know staff there (being a regular customer is a way of achieving this) and keeping your ear to the ground for vacancies. Don't rely on the website or shop window - vacancies are often not advertised.
However, securing work with a smaller music retailer to get experience might be your best bet - or any retail experience at all. Actually somewhere like Xtra Vision might be an idea. Do you know how to operate a till? That's pretty much an essential requirement. Also, I think you have to have your leaving cert to work there.

Have to say, I found them a horrible company to work for. I've heard Zavvi is way nicer. And it actually takes on people with music/film knowledge, HMV doesn't care so much about that.

I worked in Xtra-Vision which is similar enough, and they'd hire anything these days (my local now officially has a Polski who speaks little or no English). Get a job there, work for a while and then move on to HMV with your experience.

They had a sign in the window of the Grafton St branch saying they were hiring last week. Just drop in your CV

    Thanks for the replies lads.
I'm actually just looking for part-time/weekend work there, cos I'll be going back to college end of Sept.

Might drop a CV in anyway and see what happens!
