Sorry man but you can't hunt hares at this time of the year. Season isn't open yet.

Hares don't run well on the lamp anyway - it's not really the done thing - you'd hear of lads doing it where it is legal but it's no real challenge for the dog especially this time of year.
Now a hare in winter by daylight is a different story.

wait til october before hunting hares, you'll only get yourself in trouble with the law. hares arent the smartest animals on the lamp and most lurcher men dont run them at night.
wait til winter then get you lurcher out early in the morning and you'll be able to get some good runs for him, dont worry if he doesnt catch any, takes a real good dog to catch a hare in the day time,a collie x whippit wouldnt usually be a cross for hares. just enjoy the chase.

just so people know, it's never legal to hunt a hare unless you have a license!
no matter what the season etc.
you could possibly get a section 42 licence to hunt a hare with a lurcher but it would specific to a farm and lamping would need to be included as a condition.

Yes, unlimited shotgun licence or a licence for netting for coursing clubs and events.

I know you're new here, but don't forget a key point in the charter - I'm too old to be translating..
No text speak, there are more then 160 characters available here so there is no reason to use it.

    Thanks
    Bigred :)

welcome to boards , your starting out in your hunting life so ask questions ,learn as much as you can about the game you hunt ,the internet is a open book to you , a hare is a fine animal also there not too plentyfull around me anyway . think about why you want to kill one , i will hunt and shoot most things worth hunting , but not hares ,enjoy your hunting it will become your life not part of it

dont think the young lad deserved a yellow card, in fairness. no one on here ever did something silly at 14 yrs of age?
by the sounds of the young lad he was happy just to see a hare never mind kill one.
personally i feel the yellow card is totally ott.
he's only 14 for fcuk sake.
enjoy your hunting young fella...hunt hard, kill swiftly;)

    Fair enough.

    To everyone:
Besides the one about text speak, there's another section in the Shooting Charter that states:
"If you have a problem with an action of the moderators, PM them or take it up on the Help Desk forum."

Things are often not what they may seem at first glance.
