    Anyone know what the story with the mile nad 1500m record

    1500m 3:33.5 Ray Flynn 22.01.57 Oslo 07.07.82
    Mile 3:49.77 Ray Flynn 22.01.57 Oslo 07.07.82

    Was this in the same race or jsut the same night?

    Yep was the same race alright. He broke the 1500m record on route to breaking the mile record.
    2 birds with 1 stone eh :)

    Ok cool would have though you would need to be in a 1500m race to break it. Does that stand for world records also?

    Yeah counts for world records as well. Gebrselassie broke the world half marathon in Phoenix and enroute broke the 20km record too.
    I know what you're saying about having to be in 2 different races, but if you think about it, you're still starting from a standing start for both of them.

    Is it true that you must also finish the actual race distance to get the record for the shorter distance?

    i.e. If Ray Flynn had dropped at 1,580 metres he wouldn't have been awarded either record?

    Not sure, well he wouldn't have been awarded the mile record anyway :p
