I just read that Rivaldo will transfer from AEK Athens to Bunjokdor in Usbekistan.

They appearantly offered him mad money. Is Usbekistan the new Saudi Arabia, where previously good players can earn easy money?

I reckon he must have earned loads in his carreer. Why can't top players just finish on top of their carreer with some dignity?

Rivaldo's dignity died the day he took that dive against Turkey in the 2002 World Cup ;)

Would you include top players like Giles, Best and Pele who earned loadsa money playing MLS a few decades ago?

If so, then this sort of things has been going for years.

Yes but the MLS in those days was a reasonable standard, and also remenber that players back then didn't earn a fraction of what the top players earn these days, so the money would have been a big factor.

Why in god's name would someone like Rivaldo want to end a distinguished career in Uzbekistan of all places? The standard can't be much better than league of Ireland (maybe worse?) and as a multi-millionaire he's hardly stuck for cash.

Personally I lost a bit of respect for him anyway after his carry on against Turkey.

It's not the cash, but the adulation that the old pros crave. It must be hard to give that up and slip into anonymity. And why not try a year or two in Uzbeckistan? I mean, what has he, or the Uzbeck league got to lose?

Ah that hattrick against Valencia on the last day of the season back in 2001........................

What a player... For a winger he really did score a fu*k load of goals, that goal against England really was the perfect finish.

scored a beaut against United in the 3-3 draw at the Nou Camp in 98/99 - some game that was. (loved the Cole goal in that game - ripped the barcelona defense apart)

Possibility! Their cotton exports are second to none.
