By all means discuss the band but please don't mention their upcoming Dublin gig:

If you'd like to mention/discuss a particular gig/venue, always Google it first to find out what company is promoting it.

    Thanks.

The thing about this band is that they don't really belong in this forum: they're not indie, nor would I brand them as alternative.
However, they are associated with both genres, while at the same time being synth pop.

They strike me as what the next Cure album would sound like had they spent the last 4 years on acid and listening to nothing but Erasure and Pet Shop Boys.

As someone who's a fan of 80s synth pop and a fanatic of 80s indie, these guys sound exactly like my kinda thing... :)

Aye - I reckoned they were worth giving a listen to on purely the *name* of the single 'I'm not gonna teach your boyfriend how to dance with you' and i was right.

Ekels seems to be trying to make the point that their sound (based as it is) is a bad thing, but i'm gonna have to stand full square by La Dudess and say that there are far worse templates you could choose than mixing the Pets and the Cure. Blindingly catchy tune purveyors the both of 'em.

I'd chuck a bit of The Go Team into the mix - there's a lot more shouty stuff in there than you'd have gotten in your bog standard 80's synth stomp stuff, but it's all good. Factor in the fact that Bernard Butler is producing it, and you've a winning formula, at least to *these* cloth ears!

It's blindingly good pop music. This is *not* going to change the world and like The Pipettes (I suspect) the fact that this is really 'pop' released on an Indie label will earn it bog all but disinterest from the general public if the band ever get around to a second album.

I hope i'm wrong in all this, but I think the general sniffiness there is out there to Pop Music means that unless they suddenly go all angst-ridden or (god forbid) tender acoustic guitar ballads next time out, they'll be sinking without trace.

I saw these guys at ****** when i was trying to kill some time and i have to admit that they were pretty great. The only song I knew goin in was Hurricane Jane, which they played last but i was able to enjoy the rest of the set.
The only thing that bothered me was when i found out they were american. I grew up with uk bands ditchin their accents for yankee twangs but the reverse of this really shocks me. The lead singer is from Florida (i think) but sings in the same robert smith imitation as kele from bloc party.
Apart from that, these are fun but I can see them being forgotten quickly.

I did not imply that their sound is a bad thing, so could you please attempt to point out where you are drawing this from, please?
All I implied was that they are not really indie or alternative, but synth pop. I then mentioned bands such as the Cure (who I really like) and Pet Shop Boys and Erasure (don't mind either). I never gave a subjective opinion, at all, just my own summation.
Their sound is not a bad thing, it's unashamed fun. Nowt wrong with it, and I'm partial to the odd listen of Partie Traumatic, thank you very, very much.

My point is that the vocalist sounds a little like Smith and that they have the Cure's whole synth vs. guitar thing goig on to. They are also indebted to synth pop, clearly. And the acid thing refers to their punchy energy.

Sorry - i read it like you thought it to be a bad thing; you didn't and i'm sorry for drawing that inference. Around these here parts, one could be forgiven for thinking that if music is unashamedly upbeat and un-selfconscious that it's somehow not valid, and rather vapid.

Evidently you don't subscribe to that theory, and may I be the first to welcome you to the church... :D
