Philips PET710 portable DVD player - when I power it on, the initial screen appears (so the power is fine), but nothing happens after that. It doesn't load, the DVD doesn't spin and none of the control buttons have any effect.

My 6 yr old (foolishly) confessed to me that he "may" have tried inserting the headphones into the wrong slot (i.e. the "video" out slot).

Any hope for resurrecting it or is it time to administer the last rights ? I am thinking of bringing it into the Philips shop in town, but don't want to waste any unnecessary cash on trying to resuscitate it.
