Is the GAA blocked for Irish Setanta subscribers? Why is it blocked, Surely Irish subscribers should get different programming instead of having it blocked? Does premiership football on a 3pm sat kick off get blocked from UK setanta subscribers?

Afaik because RTE own the rights.

As barnicles said, and don't forget TV3.

RTÉ, TV3 and BBC NI own the 32-county rights to live coverage of the GAA championships, Setanta own the Great Britain and overseas rights.

And yes, Setanta block 3pm kick-offs to the UK. Its part of the blackout that no TV coverage takes place when the majority of matches in all the leagues are taking place. Setanta can show these matches in the republic, as we are a different jurisdiction, and our senior soccer leagues don't play at 3pm on saturdays, not to mention the winter :)

Setanta should have different coverage, tbh. They have 2 versions of Setanta Sports 1, one for Ireland and one for GB, why not bung the GAA onto the GB one, and not have a 08 banner in Setanta Sports 2?

I agree about moving the GAA coverage to Setanta Sports 1. It makes sense

Ok thanks. So whats the point of having 2 versions of the channels if they show the same programming? Adverts i suppose? Surely not very cost effective?

2 versions for adverts plus the viewers in the UK get alternate programming when there is live 3pm football on.
