Cant you just put a password on your user profile on the pc? What O/s are you using? Does your pc not ask for password on start up already?

You can lock your computer using the Windows Key + L command. Your user password is needed to regain access.

If your the only user on the pc, you can click "log off" in the start menu and choose "switch user" this should bring you to the user list with your programs still loaded etc.

Turn on the screensaver password resume feature so if you forget to lock the PC once the screen saver timeout has expired then when you resume you have to enter the password.

Go Tools-->Options--> Under security tab tick use a master password
