Governments 5 year plan to end homelessness

There is a lot of criticism over where the Government is going to get the cash to sort out the homeless problem within five years. I can see no problem with this,

With houses bring repossessed at a rate of one a day and increasing, There will be mountains of vacant boarded up accommodations owned by financial institutions right across there country. Squatting will become widespread and the government will just turn a blind eye to it thus ending the homelessness problem.

A noble cause. Now sit back and watch them make a mess of it as usual.

Might even go homeless for a free house to jump on the bandwagon.

5 year plan? Sounds Stalinist. The government will employee people like ewj1978 to round up the homeless and shoot them. FACT.

Heaven forbid should be actually give the government a chance to prove themselves for finally saying that they'll do what they and previous governments should have done long before now, and had the balls to put their necks on the line.

All these homeless the Government is on about will be housed in luxury apartments through the city while most of the rest of the population will booted out of them on to the streets for default of mortgage payments

So you know the plan before any news agency, agency that deals with the homeless, and possibly even the government? Is this another Run_to_da_hills Fact(TM)?

What about that recent coverage in the Hearld of a Guy who was left with several kids after his wife died giving birth. He had to quit his job and was given an eviction notice to leave his rented South Dublin accomodation.

Where was the government and its agencies in this case?.

That's not an answer. By your logic: This guy is lucky; they'll be giving him a nicer home soon.

This reminds me of when Patrick Bateman comes across the homeless guy...:D

This stinks of another government plan to keep tabs on people....maybe even keep tabs on where they are living.

It is called "vagrancy". I know in some States in the US its an offense to sleep on the streets, one must check in to various shelters.

Ending homelesness is an impossible pipe dream.People become homeless for all kinds of reasons and if the government reckons it can solve them it'd be the first government in the western world to do so.
    Sloganeering nonsense as usual.

There would be several types of "homelessness", the obvious one would be the guys lying on cardboard sheeting kipping in door wells of premises in the inner city.

There are also those that are living with their parents and friends that cannot afford any place of their own, their support would be indefinite and the Government dose not take any of this into consideration.

I can see some benefits on the government keeping tabs on certain members of the "homeless" community, I.E Those that persist in hanging around the M50 off ramps.
