Wierd Guinness Problem

    I love a good pint of guinness and last night i even drank about 7 or 8 pints, loved it :D though iv tried numerous times to drink guinness from cans i can barely even finnish one, i dont understand this, arent they identical drinks?

    AFAIK No they are not Identical drinks.

    Are you pouring them into a Guinness brand Pint Glass? Or are you going hell for leather straight from the can?

    yeah trout is right pour it into a pint glass will improve it but its still hard to beat a pint of draught.
    Have u ever tried the pint bottles much better than the cans i know some people who prefer the pint bottles no head on it tho.

    Anyhow, you can't beat a pint of draught.

    Anyone noticed different can's on the market?

    I don't buy the can's often but the last cans I bought looked "old style" it was just the logo and none of the normal marketing blurb, the thing is they was virtually no head and no sign of any widget:confused:

    That was probably the "Extra Stout" cans, they're black with a yellow logo? I find them much nicer than the regular cans

    Get the Guinness Draft cans, and then pour into a glass from the can like you were pouring a normal pint from the tap.

    Result=Bob's your mother's brother.

    This is going to sound like a sin but it works trust me (I may or may not have worked Guinness at some stage so there is some logic behind it!) Open can and push back the ringpull fully - leave the can alone for a minute then put the glass over it then invert the can so that its pouring in straight.

    Its the closest you'll get to the head you get in a pub if you allow it to settle out properly - do it the way you see in the pub with a can and all you'll get it is a massive head and the widget is designed to eliminate the need to tilt and straighten.

    TBH though always think you're better off sticking with draught in the Pub and drinking Extra Stout or even better Foreign Extra Stout - the prince of the Guinness varieties - at home.

    a mate of mine drinks direct from the can. Says he prefers it this way. Either he's seriously hard core or some kind of freak.

    Exactly correct my friend. The widget is designed so straight pouring is acceptable, and in fact is the best way to get the most out of your can.

    I know a lad who drinks it straight out of the can. Sacrelige.

    I used to do the 2 part pour with the cans. I was home this summer and picked up a slab and it had some guinness bbq recipes inside and also a guide on the perfect pour from Master Brewer, Fergal Murray:
    1. Chill your cans for at least 3 hours
    2. Open a can and leave it breathe for a few seconds
    3. Slowly pour down the inside of a clean glass tilted at 45 degrees
    4. Leave and admire as the Guinness surges, exploding with energy before coming to rest
    5. Sit back and enjoy the ultimate reward

    is that export draught bottle available in Ireland? seen it here ant think its about 8 maybe 9 % but havent tried it... looking forward to me first decent pint in a year and a half next saturday............ then... let the party begin cos Im back to stay....

    Tis indeedy! Can be hard enough to find but getting better - best place to find it strangely enough is Dunnes, find the bottles of extra stout and there are usually just a few lonely foreign extra bottles next to them. If not any Off Licence with a good beer section should be able to help you out.

    I tend to be the a bit of a stickler for accuracy about things Guinness so sorry about this but it's Export "Stout" not "Export" Draught - two different forms of beer completely, this one is carbonated so it'll have a bubbly head rather than the smooth nitrogenated one of Draught. Secondly tis 7.5% not 8 or 9 and lastly this is going to sound strange but it should be served at around 8-9 degrees rather than straight from the fridge as twas designed as a beer for warmer climates and this is the only way to taste it as it should be.

    Its bitter and takes a bit of getting used to but with all respect to draught and extra stout get used to this and its the only Guinness you'll drink!
