For college work? It has plenty of memory, plenty of storage - so long as you are not an arts student :)

    It's in Currys for €580
I know I will still have to buy security and microsoft

And it would pretty much just be for college work and for storing some music, thats about it

    :)

For €580 it's a pretty good deal especially as it's a sony, they're usually quite expensive. For example, 2GB memory module for €380 https://www.sonystyle.ie/SonyStyle/b2c/display/(isQuery=yes&xcm=PCM_b2ccrmstandard&citemprod=46B2FA52EB3B007B000000002BC29B74&query=*VGPMM2GA.AE*&citemarea=42370E3BDD3B00B1000000002BC29B8F&layout=15_116_61_59_117_121&Z_OMNI_CSINT=14000025&carea=%24ROOT&citem=42370E3BDD3B00B1000000002BC29B8F46B2FA52EB3B007B000000002BC29B74)/.do

For what you want it for the laptop should be fine. For internet security you could use the freeware alternatives. If you still prefer to buy internet security get kaspersky. McAffee is rubbish and a resource hog, norton isn't as bloated as it used to be but I'd still rate kaspersky over it. A freeware alternative to ms office is open office. At least try it before spending all that money on ms office.

It comes loaded with Windows, and dont buy any security software, they're a waste of time and money. Just download avg it's free and just as good.
If you need word and the likes you can download free versions too.

It's the same price as the nr32 but has a smaller hard drive (160GB vs 200GB) so the other one works out better value for money. Why would he bother going with the nr38?
