Can anyone tell me the name of this film?

I remember i saw a film over 15 years ago about 2 brothers or friends who were surrounded by german soilders (i think) and were trapped inside a cellar with no way out. The germans then start to flood the cellar to try and force them out. As the film goes on it keeps cutting to scenes of their childhood and growing up.…

Eventually as the water fills the cellar they decide to shoot themselves in the head.

Can anyone tell me the name of that film?
