Anyone recognise this bird?

This little fella was lying outside my front door the other day, still as death. I thought he was dead, (hence the bag), but when I picked him up, he was still warm, and breathing really shallowly.
I brought him into the house and tried to keep him warm, but sadly, he didnt recover.
I've no idea what happened, he had no apparent injuries, and was just lying on the ground like he'd been zapped.
Anyone any idea what sort of bird it is, and what could have killed it?

Looks to me like a young Song Thrush but given my previous contribution to this Forum it's as likely to be a Buzzard!:):):)

Yes, it's a young song thrush. Young birds sometimes have a habit of crash diving into windows, so if he was laying on your doorstep, maybe this is what happened? Had a young blue tit do exactly that into my garden workshop window the other day (he/she recovered though :) ).

Thanks all. Sad to see such a beautiful little bird die.
In fairness though, there is a lot of beautifully colored bird life where i live, and them boyos can sing like Leona Lewis.
The monsoon rain of late has made it feel a bit rain-foresty in these here parts. :)

More likely to be poision put out for magpies they get hypathermia usually if you get them into the warm quickly they recover. Very sad

I saw a young thrush being attacked by a magpie some weeks back,I ran towards the birds, the magpie picked up the thrush, while the other thrush's were trying to defend it,when i got there, the magpie left the thrush on top of a fence post, upon examination,it was dying, holes pecked in it's back.As for the poision for magpies,it's not used at this time of year, only in winter time,-3 degrees, I think.

With all due respect, i think you should have left the magpie alone. Since you interfered in the natural process, the magpie probably went looking for another live meal elsewhere!!

(this is why I never get in to road rage arguments with people in traffic!)

Ah well, fair play to you for trying to rescue the chick and before anyone comes down hard on you, I don't think you put a huge dent in the eco system of your area!
