It's not the best time of year to be ferreting, too many young Rabbits. Looks like your ferret killed a young Rabbit and is sleeping it out. You were right to block the holes. Go back first thing in the morning and unblock all the holes and make loads of noise. Bang your spade on the ground shout down the holes to get your ferret active and it should come out. Be patient!!:)
What you need is a collar and a locator. You'll get them from Deben electronics, get the Countrymans Weekly, its a UK paper for hunting. You won't lose your ferrets with the locator, but you'll need a nice tidy spade and a ferreting bar. Are you hunting on your own or do you have a friend to watch the other side of the hedge? If not your ferret may have wandered off on you. The bells get clogged up with clay and don't work in wet weather. Good luck with finding your ferret, i lost a few when i was your age and usually got them back:). Welcome to Boards and enjoy your hunting, if you need any advice there are some very good lads on here.

hope you got your ferret back young man. great to see youngsters taking up hunting. hope you stick at. well done.
read everything you can on hunting, books etc....especially if your learning as you go and dont have a "teacher" so to speak.
no such thing as a stupid question,so come on to forums like this and ask away.

welcome to boards. i know your pain only too well. i have lost ferrets in my day and nothing is as bad. what i would say is leave your ferreting box near the burrow you introduced him too and leave a piee of kidney in the box. he might come back out that night and sleep in the box and eat his treat. it worked for me so it did.

now time for my plug, im selling a deben ferret finder and collar virtually brand new so if you want it come give me a shout. :)

best of luck with your ferrets and lurchers you'l have great fun with them and you'l be good and wise for when the times comes to get a gun if you so wish. happy hunting and i hope your ferret shows up.

ps - if you can get your hands on a ferret finder and collar put your other ferret in and hopefully he will find him for you and either take him back up or lie up beside him! im in laois so if your really stuck i may be able to help you. i know how bad it can be when you get attached to the little buggers and you lose one!

I was going to say about leaving the box there as well! That's the first thing most would tell you ;)

There's a very active ferreting section on there and a good few people your age.
The ferret finder collars are very handy - interesting in a big burrow too to see where they're traveling but as you know it's best to stay quiet on top.
    Ferret Finder

People go on about 'ferreting bars' - IMO they make them up too light altogether - get a decent bar and one of the folding saws and you'll dig through anything.
