this could be in the wrong section, sorry mods.

My friend sent his imacG5 (powerpc model) into the apple repair centre there a while ago. The machine needed a new logic board as the old one had burnt out. Fair enough.

he decided to just upgrade aswell and bought himself a G5 power pc tower. Apple sent hi this, along with his old machine, which was repaired, apparently.

they decided to take the hard drive out of his old mac and throw it into the new one.
leaving him with one hard drive. and an imac which was of no use because of no hardrive.

also, the machine is rated as having 1gig ddr2 ram. it only has 512 meg...

he asked me to fit a new sata he bought off apple fr it. they took the brackets from his old machine and never told him, so he had to wait another week for them to come. they also sent him the wrong size hdd. and still charged him for it! he wanted 250gig they sent 80gig.

so, i opened up the machine, to find two screws missing, and one broken! two missing from the lcd bracket. one broken from up near the top left corner at the camera attachment. this was loose and faling around teh machine which could have caused a short.

i fitted the hdd. but only on one side as you have to remove the motherboard to securly fit it, and i didnt want to mess anything up. but it was completely stable anyways.

ok, i tried to sell it for him, no interest. so he gave it to me to use.

i just installed osx on it today. the first disk went on fine. upon the installation of the second it started to shut down every 30 seconds. i thought it was the smu, so i reset it and got through the rest of the setup.
the machine started to smell of burning. and continued to shut down after install. i decided it was either a broken fan or no heatsink gel.

i took it apart to find that the main fan had not been reconnected!!!!!!!!!

the clip around the fan had been broken off also! the wire from the fan was lodged under the motherboard!

ive just finshed reconnecting it and whatnot, and the machine is working beautifully.

but thanks to the near meltdown I am certain the machine's life expectancy has just halved.

anyway, my point is, do not send your apple mac to the dublin repair centre!!!!!! they are obviously letting untrained or uncaring person/s do the repairs, and thats just not good enough...

A bit off topic but I rang Apple Customer Care about a well known iPod problem. I was about 20 minutes and the person on the phone didn't have a clue about the problem or how to fix it (the only way to fix it is to return it to Apple to be repaired/replaced, I had done my research) so he just hung up on me.
