    Hi,

I've done a search on this but couldn't quite find an answer.

My HRM has died after it ended up in the washing machine:eek: It wasn't that great anyway though. I'm doing more of my running outside now instead of on the treadmill, and I really need a hrm that measures distance as well as heart rate. I've been relying on doing laps based on knowing that one particular lap is a mile - and the scenery can get a bit samey!

I don't really need any fancy gadgets, just heart rate and distance,

    Thanks!

    Gra:)

Theres a few models ok, but I invested in a garmin forerunner 405, I love it, but it is expensive, the 305 model is quite good also and alot more affordable

The Garmins are fairly pricey, Polar do a couple of watches that measure your speed and distance, the cheapest being the 200SD about 250ish euro off the top of my head.
I bought my self a polar 100 the cheapest of the 'running' range of polars and for distance I simply map my runs on www.mapmyrun.com an excellent tool for keeping track of your distance with the added advantage of checking out other runs in your area posted by fellow runners (I've posted a few around Swords where I live as have others).
As far as I know the garmins work off GPS signals and the polars have a foot pod/attachment for your runners which works out distance having been calibrated to your stride (you need to have a set distance to do this, a running track for example). I know nike do a similar item too.
I got my polar watch in the states for 119 dollars or 80ish euros compared to 110 here in Ireland. So my advice would be wait till your over there or get someone to get it for you.
There are similar questions asked all the time over on the athletics thread under sports so check out those responces

try polar.co.uk aswell for the heart monitors, alot of them also help you set running pace if its designed around the runner, If your old HRM is a polar go to their website and print off the service form, send it to them. I did that and recieved 40% off any HRM in the range.
