A Yop youghurt would help with the heatburn, not so much with the belching itself.

However, don't try this if you have been ill - your body will mistake the lactic acid in the youghurt for the food poisoning.

Pick up a pack of Gaviscon and stick it in the press for the future, Mark (rather than Rennie). Dunnes carry it, prob. other supermarkets ... pharmacies certainly. I find the small greenish-blue travel pack handy, not alone can it be be stuck in a pocket if necessary, but the tablets are smaller / easier to chew through (also comes in liquid form).

I'm told water only adds to the pain in the long run.

If ur prone to the burn stay off fizzy drinks. That's beer too...

You have 'acid reflux'. Gaviscon may do the trick but you may also need to review your diet - if you eat a lot of fatty foods, takeaways, alcohol or spicy foods (who doesn't) you may need to cut down on these.

Otherwise you may need 'proton pump inhibitors', more commonly sold as Nexium but it is expensive (about €75 for a month's course).

Of course, there are many cheaper versions. You can do research on the web and purchase generic versions for a third of the price.

I picked up a generic packet in Spain last week (28 tablets) for just €5....but then Spain have an excellent and efficient people-centred and well subsidised health service.
