So i'm a punky hippy chick but I need to start dressing a bit older (no more baggies etc) but don't want to lose my edge, It's important for me to be unique.

I'm 18 now and need to start dressing my age when going to clubs etc
    Any advice?

    Why the need to change?

Dress however you want to dress, once you feel comfortable and happy in how you are dressed it doesnt matter what you are wearing imo.

Don't like looking so young, getting alot of hassle trying to get into pubs and also I'm a D.J and peole tend not to take me seriously as my face is very young looking

Fair enough. Dont really know how women can look older on a night out, something with your hair maybe?

Forget college. You need to start working in an advertising agency.

Wow, they are two completely conflicting social groups. I'm guessing you are neither.

Lads if you don't have anything useful to say, why comment?

HH, you can keep your style you just need it more structured. So say instead of wearing baggy jeans, go for maybe a nice denim skirt with biker boots and funky tights. Layer vest and cardigans over each other and accessorize accordingly! :) My friend shops in Harlequin and Flip (and the shop next to it) and she gets some lovely vintage hippy clothes. 40's/50's style dresses, nice cardigans etc. (ooh maybe this is all too granny-ish?!) Have a look anyway. There's lots of nice leather jacket styles around too at the moment.

Wear light makeup, tastefully done it will make you look older.

Why change, just because you're 18. I'm 25 and still dress like a 15 year old (according to my mother anyway). If your punky clothes are what you feel comfortable in, stay that way. Dont change just because you're now 18.

my advise would be don't label yourself. Don't try to be unique, it leads to disaster. Wear what you like and have the confidence to pull it off. basic style and attention to shapes is important. wearing a baggy tshirt/top with baggy pants will make anyone look childish or like they're hanging around the house and not in any way do ANYTHING for their body.
fitted tops with baggy pants on the other hand work. its hard to give someone advise like this without knowing what they actually like, look like an have the confidence to wear.

Why did you feel the need to have two bites at the cherry. You are obviously a very mixed up girl torn between a taste for violent anarchy and peaceful outpourings of human empathy.

Nah - lame joke about the way you phrased your OP. Obviously I'm not as funny as I think I am. :)

I agree with the other poster who said 18 is too young to start thinking about dressing older. Stick with what you feel good in.

You are obviously A very mixed up person who feels the need to belong to some social group lest you not fit in in society as an individual person god love ya

Bang on. So if you're just you, dress exactly the way you want to dress. Feeling compelled to dress "older" at 18 is nuts! The only clothing that's too young for 18-year-olds is kiddie clothing and some of that skater stuff.

If you feel your face is younger looking than 18, as Piste said, make-up is great for making you look older.

Carry on. House Hippo just believe in yourself and it will all be ok.

Given that I got ID'd for wine at the weekend and I'm 24, I'm gonna keep an eye on this thread...

I had the same problem at your age as i'm baby faced and used to love the baggys etc. I think the biggest change i made was sacking the baggys in favour of more fitted trousers, it really does instantly make you look older. You can still keep your top a little bit different and no one will notice that much.

In terms of makeup, i like to be subtle and what works for me is this-
A little bit of well matched liquid foundation to even out the skin tone and a bit of concealer on any blemishes (nothing says teenager like a spot!).
A little liquid highlighter to cover up any dark areas under my eyes and a little under my nose and chin for a fresh look.
Powder highlighter along cheek bones and along jaw line (this is essential for giving a more chiseled adult look to my face).
A little pink eye shadow and some brown mascara for subtle eyes, maybe eyeliner for a stronger look if im in the mood.
Then for matching a lip colour for subtle accentuation just pull your lip out a match the colour to the darker area you can see inside your mouth, this should give the perfect colour for your skin tone.

I'm 29 and was id'd everywhere on a recent trip to America... I loved it!

Nothing to do with me looking young I'm afraid, they just id everyone. :(

OP, I agree with the previous poster, baggie trs will instantly make you look younger, wearing more fitted trs will definitely help, no-one says they have to be boring. TBH, I'd say enjoy it while it lasts, I'd love to have your problem :o.

I've no advice really only to sympathise. I had awful trouble getting in places at that age and for years afterwards. Wasn't even let into my own debs till i kicked up a fuss  My mam always told me I'd be glad of the baby face one day and she was right, mammies eh  I'm 30 now and I was carded for cigarettes last week :D

Your style sounds really cool anyhoo!
