It may be a bargain, and I dont know if you are much of a drinker, but it wouldnt get a cat drunk.....check the strength and it is a lot lower than in the south..
we have a word for beer like that where I live....PURE PISH!:p

Are you saying the poor souls in the North can take their Drink and have to have it watered down:eek:?:D

Im heading up to Enniskillen tomorrow so I will pop into Asda and get some of that Carlsberg. It suits me if the alcohol strength is lower as I want to get the cans for Electric Picnic so lower alcohol beer would suit just fine for the long days/nights. Thanks OP

Note that cans up north are only 440ml.

On a side note, which north of Ireland supermarket chain is better value...Asda or Sainsburys?

IMO its down to what you are looking to buy but having shopped in both Id say Asda are better value.

One of the ASDA store I was in recently had a scanning error with the carlsberg - we got 3 crates of 18 cans for £11. 20p a tin aint bad.

The beauty of enniskillen is that you have Tesco and Asda next door to each other trying to compete against. So you shop at both and get great bargains.

In regards to sainsburys v asda I would always say Asda are better value.

Cant wait for them to move south and take on Dunnes and Tesco here.

That said Tesco the other day were offering a free pack of sweets and 1 ltr orange if you spent over 30 pounds!

God knows who came up with that crap offer!

Do Asda (Wal-Mart) have plans on moving south?

It was reported a few weeks ago that they were looking at Donegal and other locations. This is due to the fact that they are turning over one million sterling a week in both Strabane and Enniskillen.

By the way, their beer offers are brilliant.

/looks at fridge full of Heineken.

Apparently it was some radio station that they're considering Sligo also.

EDIT: Here is link from article in Sligo Weekender (amusing that they'd use an image of a Homebase shop)

They're apparently looking at taking over Superquinn who are apparently being put up for sale by it's current owners. Sainsburys and Tesco's are also said to be interested but Tesco for obvious reasons won't be allowed to do so.

Disagree! Asda may be 'cheaper' for some things, but their own brand stuff is tat. Sainsburys ftw (with a stop to check the special offers in Asda!)

This argument all boils down to whether you want to give your money to Lord Sainsbury:

    or S. Robson Walton

there's an asda somewhere close to Newry - does anyone know where exactly it is?

asda's far better than sainsburys for bargains IMO

After a bit of googling, theres 1 in a place called Kilkeel, just outside of Newry on the A2 heading to Downpatrick, its about 18miles. Never been there meself, but will have to try it out next time i head up north.

Carlsberg is my tipple of choice, have been drinking it for years. However last Christmas I made the trip to Enniskillen and picked up a cheap slab of 440ml cans. Brought them home and chilled for the holiday season. Took a swig out of the first can and noticed that it tasted quite different. Checked the date and all was fine. Checked with mates and they confirmed the same with their NI bought Carlberg.

Those 440ml cans up North did not cut it. I am just after buying my 24 x 500ml cans for 23.99 down south and I'm sticking with it, even if it costs me a few euro more.
