I just watched Lost in Translation and it woke up that dormant urge to see Japan sometime. I also love watching films set in Paris... yes, yes, cheese i know but I can't help it.

Does anyone have any other good travel inspiring ones?

Every Japan based film increases my interest in visiting said country. My Neighbour Totoro and Takeshi Kitano films in particular, although the amount of killer appliance based motion pictures set in the country is unsettling (phones, voicemail, internet, video tapes, toasters etc...)

I'd seen New York in the movies before, e.g Taxi Driver, but it looked grotty (which it was, years ago). Then, Léon showed a different side of the city, more open and colourful, and it had me wanting to visit. I spent a few days there in mid 2001, went up the World Trade Centre...

Now, since Los Angeles (outside Hollywood) started appearing in films, I've found myself wanting to go. First there was Heat, then LA Story, then (more recently) Collateral and Crash. I think I need to learn to drive first, to "see it in the original", as they say.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

All the time. In fact whenever I'm in a new city I like to find the spots that feature in my favourite movies.

You wouldn't believe how awkward to get this shot from the Matrix (Sydney) was if you'd actually been on the street in question

Mamma Mia made me long to go back to Greece

Every movie I've ever seen set in LA has confirmed that it is a place I do NOT want to go

Every film set, made in, or starring Australians makes me want to return once more and wreak havoc on the streets. No. That isnt true. I wouldnt actually go there. I would nuke it from an offshore base. Far offshore. So I dont catch australia disease.

But seriously, the Rock, I know its a crap film, but watching that makes me want to go back to San Fran every time. I guess it makes me want to return to places I have been already moreso than go somewhere new a lot of the time. I will watch a **** film just for the landscape that it provides sometimes.

Lost in Translation, have never wanted to go to Japan more than after seeing that film.

When I saw Heartbreakers I wanted to go into Jennifer Love Hewitt... I mean Florida.

Seriously though.... Mulholland Drive-- LA, I don't think any other film has had such an effect on me. Also, City of God-- Rio. Not the favelas obviously, but the city looked amazing, That Jesus statue is unbelievable! Cinema Paradiso-- Sicily. Think Thailand has a pull on everyone after The Beach. Human Traffic-- Cardiff. Babel-- Mexico city, Tokyo. Into The Blue-- Jessica Alba, I mean The Caribbean. La Haine, Last tango in Paris-- Paris. In Bruges, Bruges. Forgetting Sarah Marshall, LOST,-- Hawaii. The Business, Sexy Beast-- Spain. Swingers, Casino-- Las Vegas. New York-- Too many movies to name! Shirley Valentine-- Greece.

The Darjeeling Limited made me want to go to India (provided I could travel in the lap of luxury on a fancy train, that is!)

Friends of mine were the same, and they actually acted on it and are currently somewhere around Dehli...

Lets just say word back has suggested that maybe Darjeeling Limited is a bit of a romantic portrait ;)

Well, it is a wes anderson film after all. The main character's in these movies don't tend to have to worry about those little things that you're friends might have to give some thought to. Ye know, like money and what not! They're more worried about finding enough manservants to lug around their luis vuitton suitcases!! I've decided that if i ever go to India for recreational purposes, it will have to be as a millionaire in another life so i can live it up like the lads did. it just wouldn't be right to spoil that perfect image i have of the place!
