PV Grid tie inverters

Been toying with the idea of mounting pv solar panels connecting to a grid tie inverter,thus elimating the cost required in purchasing deep cycle batteries and the on going maintenance required to keep them operating.I have repaired 5 110w 12volt PV panels.On a normal bright day I am getting an average of 18 volts from each panel.What i want to know is how well grid tie inverters work in the country.Do I need permission from the esb to connect to the grid?Also what technial spec do I need to look for?

I would be a bit wary about purchasing from a ebay store but the idea looks good.Any suggestions as to where to look for a good quality grid tie inverter?

Yes and they will not give a private individual permission to connect.
Thats just the way it is.

This PV Cells are about 20% efficient and in this counrty they are not worth considering, my opinion.
