Cleaning job

I was wondering if anyone had any experience of cleaning houses? Especially setting up on their own. I got a flyer thing from a lady offering to clean my apartment this morning and it got me thinking, I could do that myself. I'll be starting a course next month so won't be able to hold down a proper job. I'm doing grinds for college students, but this seems like another way to have a flexible job. Is it common for people to just get one-one cleans? Do they normally pay cash? I worked as a maid in a five star hotel one summer during college so I do know how to clean properly and to a really high standard.

I know a girl who works as a cleaner, and another girl who runs a cleaning company.

It is minimum wage and you have to pay your own travel expenses. As the job may only be one or two hours long, it's hardly worth it!

I'd investigate alternative jobs if you can...

Is it really minimum wage? The lady who cleans apartments in my complex is charging 25 quid an hour, which is what I get for grinds I have to prepare in advance.

Well the girl I know who does it gets minimum wage, and the girl I know who runs an agency charges €14 per hour!

If you can get €25 per hour, go for it!

Judging by the number of threads looking for cleaners in the Charlesland & Greystones forum, there does seem to be a demand out there. Most people seem happy enough to pay around €50 cash for 3 hours work.

Edit: why not put up a notice in the services available section on www.adverts.ie and see if you get any contact.

Lots of polish cleaners have gone home for the summer (lots are college students), so go for it. Once you can clean the entire house in 3 hours, you'll do well. Word of mouth will get you the most jobs.
